Canadian ingredients, NATURALLY

OUR STORY

In 2018 as we began our journey into eating more plant based, we were thrilled to see how many options there were on the market for dairy alternatives.  We also quickly noticed how limiting many of these items were because the main ingredient was cashew or some sort of nut based product.  Having two busy and growing girls at home, we quickly realized that school lunches were not going to be an easy task. With the goal of feeding our family and the knowledge we both had coming from the Dairy industry, Dale set out to put his cheesemaking skills to the test and create an allergy free cheeze that was safe for everyone. The task was much larger than that, not only did it need to be allergy free but it had to be made with wholesome, healthy ingredients and with as much Canadian ingredients as possible.

After much research sunflower seeds became our main ingredient, checking all the boxes; Grown in Canada, nutrient dense, low allergic reactions, and tastes great. With our main ingredient in hand, we set out to create a product that was not only healthy but tasted as authentic to original cream cheese as possible.  Using old world cheesemaking techniques, we adapted the recipe to the new world of vegan cheeze. Once we perfected our recipe, we tested it out on the hardest critics, the kids in our family.  As they ate the bowl clean, we knew we had created something special and set out to share our creation and passion with others.

Starting small at selling at local stores, farmers markets and vegfests, consumers loved the product and gave us the encouragement to go full steam ahead.  Now available in most provinces across the country, our goal is to continue to create and innovate the category with wholesome and nutritious products that we are we are proud to serve our family and yours.

Eat well, stay humble.

why sunflower seeds?

As mentioned above, being able to use sunflower seeds in a product kids could take to school was the leading reason we chose them. Sunflower seeds are high in protein, fibre, and rich in healthy fats.

Sunflower seeds contain polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. Studies have linked this to reducing the risk of developing heart disease, high blood pressure, and high cholestrol. They contain antioxidants and anticarcinogens to help protect your immune system, and can boost energy levels.

Compared to other nuts and seeds, sunflowers are high in Vitamin E – important to the health of your blood, brain and skin. Sunflowers flavonoids and other plant compounds can reduce inflammation, which in turn lowers risk factors for several chronic diseases.
